Colin Weaver - I Really Like You (Unfortunately)
So, this is a song I wrote and recorded when I was 16. I’m beginning to think that maybe all along I’ve been meant to write pop songs. Not to toot my own horn or anything, but as much as I experiment and change my music and my voice, I always end up writing pop songs. Even at 16. This song I wrote to give to a girl that I liked — I had hinted at how I felt relentlessly with her and she hadn’t gotten the picture, and I had a feeling that she liked me but I wasn’t sure, so I wrote this and sent it to her saying “Here’s a song I wrote for you”. Needlessly to say, she didn’t like me back. The first line is deliberately ridiculous; back then me and my friends used to say “what it is!” and the proper response was “shiiii, you already know!” I realize my 16 year old voice is annoying. Sorry about that.
what it is
when I came back home
you already know
that’s why I’m alone
I’ve tried and tried
to let my feelings show
but you can’t take a hint
so, here it goes:
I really like you
I want to tell you
I don’t know how to
so I’ll sing for you
please don’t hate me
don’t berate me
you intimidate me
isn’t that enough, please?
how I felt
is how I feel
it’s how I react
when you don’t peel
once and twice
and too many times
I’ve tried to unwind
your outer mind
I really like you
I want to tell you
I don’t know how to
so I’ll sing for you
please don’t hate me
don’t berate me
you intimidate me
isn’t that enough, please?
(guitar solo)
one step closer
and one step back
girl, I’d really love it if you’d cut me some slack
I’m so far lost and I need direction
what I wouldn’t give for a little affection!
I really like you…
