Colin Weaver - Steady Heart
So, here’s the first song I’ve recorded playing my new fiddle. I haven’t really been practicing very much, and I’ve only had it about a month or so, so it’s pretty damn shabby… Maybe I’ll just pretend like I intended to play as sloppily as I did. I’ll start a new genre of music called art-fiddle or something.
LYRICS:
she has a steady heart
it’s tethered to the yard
and all the passing things
are passing up too hard
borne by the wind
and aged without a friend
she has a steady heart
whose will can never bend
and every spring
along comes a fling
an earthquake promising
but she’s too safe
and like a train
plowing through the rain
no permanent station
when movement is safe
when it rains, it pours
and the sleep that she adores
don’t mean a thing anymore, anymore
and all the dreams in her head
leave her heavy in her bed
if she could share it, she’d find
so much more
but she’s too safe
to go in all the way
and with every passing day
another chance escapes
she has a steady heart
and it’s tearing her apart
shaped with broken strings
and sounding off her guard
and if she only could
do herself some good
and love like she should
and quit being safe, then she’d love
chorus
she has a steady heart
it’s tethered to the yard
and all this quiet sadness
might just turn to madness
