It’s funny how many companies think that they’re catching on to a unique new way to reach potential consumers by building blogs. Sure, hopping on social networking sites, blogging platforms, and twitter, etc., could be used to build trust with customers/potential customers, show-off and launch new products/services in a cool way, and even attract a younger audience, all in a fun and exciting way, but in most cases, it’s not. At least not on tumblr.
When I see a new follower and click on it, only to discover it’s just some company, I think “Hmm, well, I’ll follow them back if they’re doing anything interesting.” — so I click on their page, and it’s just advertisement. Filled to the brim with advertisement. A lot of these companies aren’t even trying to be clever with it — they could do suggestive advertising within the site, and write cool things about their products as if they were just blogging like any other dude, but they don’t even do that!
I’m going to shut up now.
